St. Augustine School
Mission Statement
As Catholic educators, we model ourselves after the greatest teacher, Jesus Christ. We have been called by Him to spread the Good News. Our educational mission, then, is to transmit Christian values, ethics and beliefs within a nurturing atmosphere of academic excellence. This in an ongoing process, interwoven into all subject areas.
The Christian vocation is a call to transform oneself and society. The children, depending upon their ability to understand the Christian message, become increasingly aware of what being a Christian entails. Their doctrinal knowledge, exposure to scripture, liturgical appreciation and developing attitudes toward prayer will produce the climate so necessary for them to make their own personal commitment to Christ.
St. Augustine School provides a loving, Catholic, Christian atmosphere. Each child is treated as an individual and encouraged to develop his/her potential. In addition to the mandated core curriculum, students participate in regularly scheduled classes in music, art, computer sciences and physical education. St. Augustine's is the only school in the Clarkstown district that has earned the prestigious Middle States Accreditation.
The Liturgy, prayer services and practices steeped in our Catholic faith are enjoyed and shared by faculty and students. Our children can participate in celebrating Christmas by singing carols, and retelling the story of the birth of Christ. We can celebrate a Seder meal, publicly pray for each other, and give thanks to God that we are free and proud to be Catholic.
